The Montrose Center Training Institute launched this week as a central hub for LGBTQ+ affirming education. Whether you’re earning peer specialist certifications, maintaining your license with CEUs, building a more inclusive workplace, or simply expanding your own knowledge, the Training Institute brings together decades of expertise into one accessible resource.

About Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

The Training Institute is approved to offer CEUs for a range of social work, counseling, and community health professions. Many of our CEU courses are offered at affordable rates as part of our commitment to accessible education.

Approved CEU credentials include:

  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC)
  • Master of Social Work (MSW)
  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
  • Registered Social Work Practitioner (RSPS)
  • Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS)
  • Community Health Worker (CHW)

Please note: CEUs are not currently available for physicians, nurses, or other medical licensures.


What’s on the Calendar

Free Virtual Presentations: Our Community Dialogue and LGBTQ+ Health series cover timely topics like asexual identities, diet culture and LGBTQ+ health, youth bullying, tobacco industry targeting of LGBTQ+ communities, and more. These one-hour sessions are held virtually via Zoom and are open to everyone.

Peer Specialist Certification Programs:

  • CORE Training — The prerequisite foundation for peer support certification (19.5 hours, $250)
  • Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) — For individuals with lived addiction recovery experience (40 hours, $550)
  • Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) — For individuals with lived mental health recovery experience (40 hours, $550)

Certification trainings are held in person at the Montrose Center. Lived experience with substance use or mental health challenges and recovery is required for peer specialist programs.


Coming Late 2026: Certificate Program

The Training Institute will expand later this year to offer a comprehensive certificate program for individuals, organizations, and businesses. Completion of the certification program will recognize demonstrated LGBTQ+ cultural competency, establishing a standard of excellence for inclusive care and workplace practices.
